Top 10 Spring Activities in Banff National Park : Apr  19, 2011

Banff National Park spring

Heading to the Canadian Rockies this spring and looking for some ideas of things to do in Banff? Banff National Park has so many outdoor activities and attractions from spring skiing to sightseeing. Spring is one of the best times to visit Banff National Park. Since it's shoulder season, there's plenty of hotel specials in Banff. Also, with snow remaining on the mountain peaks and fresh foilage, green grass and trees revealed on the forest floor, photos promise some ooo's and ahh's from friends and family.

Top 10 Spring Activities in Banff National Park

1. Banff Alpine Lights - The newest and most unique activity in the Canadian Rockies takes visitors on a ride up Banff Gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain. Every Saturday evening guests indulge in a delicious Alberta beef prime rib dinner surrounded by the spectacular scenery of Banff National Park and the townsite below. Alpine Lights is a must-do national park experience! You can see the views now from the most popular Banff webcams at the top of the Banff Gondola.

2. Columbia Icefield Glacier Adventure - Massive Brewster Ice Explorers, specially designed for glacial travel, take passengers on a remarkable excursion onto the surface of the Athabasca Glacier. Come along for the ride of a lifetime as you learn a wealth of fascinating information about glaciers, icefields and their impact on our environment. Mid-point in the tour, passengers can safely step out onto the glacier and stand on this powerful ancient ice. The Glacier Adventure opens mid-April.

3. Banff Upper Hot Springs - Naturally heated sulphur pools offer beautiful views of the Bow Valley and a relaxing way to end a day on the slopes or a spring hike.

4. Ski the Canadian Rockies - With some of the best snow the Canadian Rockies has received in years, the ski resorts are open with fantastic conditions until early-mid May.

5. Sightseeing at Lake Louise - Venture out and discover why Lake Louise is considered to be the jewel of the Canadian Rockies. Visit Lake Louise and the famous Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise while you admire breathtaking views of Victoria Glacier.

6. Hiking in Banff - Discover why Banff National Park was pronounced a UNESCO World Heritage Site as you visit Banff's landmarks. Make sure your camera is charged and ready, more animals start making an appearance in the spring.

7. Johnston Canyon Icewalks - Walk on the frozen waters at Johnston Canyon. Examine rock formation, native art, icefalls and learn about the geography and geology of this fascinating area. An interpretative tour includes transportation and icewalking equipment and provides guests with timeless tales, historical stories, and geological information.

8. Banff Lake Cruise - Lake Minnewanka lies in the heart of the Canadian Rockies and is the largest lake in Banff National Park. Learn all about the history, native folklore and geology; make sure to keep your eyes on the shore for local wildlife. The Lake Minnewanka valley offers some of the most interesting and spectacular scenery found anywhere in the Canadian Rockies.

9. Museums and Heritage Pass - The Heritage Passport is your ticket to experience Banff’s Culture including access to the Whyte Museum and the Banff Park Museum. Spend the afternoon exploring and learn about the people, history and wildlife that have shaped Banff National Park.

10. Horseback Trail Rides - Starting in May, journey through the Canadian Rockies the way settlers traveled hundreds of years ago. This is a relaxing and unique way to experience Banff's scenic beauty.

This list makes me homesick. I'm from Calgary, but living in Germany, but am coming back to Banff to get married this summer and am so excited and proud to show my German friends around Banff. This list has given me even more ideas!

Banff National Park is a must visit destination, I have been there before few months its really amazing.......
From Phoenix Airport Hotel
We have just arrived home (Derbyshire England) after a fantastic holiday in Canada. We flew to Vancouver with a group of 36 from our area and were met by Tony with his coach and what an exciting adventure he took us on. Vancouver Island was an amazing place and the only criticisam there was that we didnt have long enough to explore. Our trip then took us through the Rockies and Tony looked after us superbly nothing was too much trouble and when our itinarary had to be altered occasionally due to the weather in certain areas he never failed to find something just as interesting to show us. The coach was very comfortable and Tony made it a holiday to remember. We would highly recommend Brewsters Tours. With kind regards
From Stuart and Carole Middleton
