Recently Oscar our Spanish Specialist went on the Canyons of Ice Nature Tour to Johnston Canyon and "immediately our local historian and tour guide, Ward Cameron greeted us and began his commentary with passion and personal touch. He showed us his extensive knowledge of the area through his years of living in Banff National Park, guiding experience, exposure to wildlife, and his academic studies which were all reflected in his commentary, adding to the experience a valuable imaginative entertainment."
"Upon arrival and after receiving some safety instructions we headed into the canyon. Through the course, Ward explained how the survival of wildlife, the formation and erosion of the canyon all interact to give place in this wonder of nature. The Johnston Canyon Ice Walk experience may also be appreciated by photographers as the guide tells you exactly where and when the best spots are to take photographs. Once at our destination in the canyon a quick stop to observe the area while enjoying some hot chocolate. It is hard to believe how three hours had gone so fast since our departure that morning."

Ever wonder what it would be like to work in Banff National Park and the Canadian Rockies? We received an email from Ralph, who used to work at Lake Minnewanka as a boat captain over 20 years ago. Here’s his story that he shared with us. "Ultimately, my years as a Minnewanka guide helped me to achieve my dream job - as a submariner in the Canadian Navy." "It's been over twenty years since I was a guide at Lake Minnewanka, and the memories of cruising the lake in the Canoe Coves and the fishing boats are still fresh in my mind...Working at Minnewanka was indeed a good life training experience. It led me to complete a diploma in the Parks and Recreation management field, whereupon I worked for Alberta Fish & Wildlife as well as Red Deer's Waskasoo Park and Tourism Red Deer."
"I'm currently a Master Seaman aboard HMCS Corner Brook, one of the Canadian Navy's four diesel-electric submarines. I've also sailed all over the world aboard several of the Navy's frigates. It took eight years of intensive naval training to get where I am, but it was my years at Minnewanka that laid the foundation for me to become a submariner. And for that I would like to say thank-you. Thanks for the memories!" Click here for a list of current career opportunities in the Canadian Rockies.

Doug Vass and his children caught a ride to the top of the Banff Gondola in Banff National Park and it appears they loved every moment of it. His young friends discover the Canadian Rockies and remind us what it's like to be a kid again, having lots of fun in some unexpected places. "When you take your kids up a gondola ride, with this kind of view, your kids call you a rock star... isn't that awesome?" said Doug. "Here's a lesson to learn - kids tend to naturally enjoy every moment of life ...we can learn a real lesson from children and this is the time to really enjoy and I am enjoying it!" Thanks Doug for sharing this unique perspective and reminding us all what it's like to be a kid again. Click on the video below to follow their journey up the Banff Gondola. Make sure to watch Doug's other videos as they explore some family fun at the top of Sulphur Mountain in Banff. 0 comments
