This is a really a great time to visit Banff National Park. The leaves are changing colour and it's not uncommon to wake up to views of snow-capped mountain peaks.
It's also mating season for elk, known as rutting season or the rut. During this period, mature bulls compete for the attention of the females or cows, and the sound of elk 'bugles' echo through the valley.
Local resident Chris Lamothe caught this spectacular stand-off on video late last night. It's a little dark but the sound is excellent.
