DAY 1 – Calgary to Banff
Depart Calgary and travel through cowboy country and ranchlands towards the Rocky Mountains. Continue to the resort town of Banff for an introduction to local points of significance. Visit scenic highlights including Bow Falls, Two Jack Lake, and Surprise Corner. Learn about the significance of the Hoodoo rock formations overlooking the Bow Valley. At Banff Gondola, ascend to the peak of Sulphur Mountain for a bird’s eye view of the surrounding peaks and Banff townsite far below. Enjoy an interpretive boat cruise at Lake Minnewanka with wildlife often spotted at the water’s edge. Spend a leisurely night in Banff.
DAY 2 – Exploring Banff
Immerse yourself in mountain culture and heritage during a free day in Banff. Visit the local galleries and museums, or take a stroll along the Bow River. The many shops and cafes of Banff Avenue offer up small treasures and tasty treats. For the more adventurous, canoe rentals and bike rentals are available to explore the wilderness surrounding Banff. A hike up Tunnel Mountain provides many great photo opportunities.
DAY 3 – Banff to Jasper
An epic day of sights and photo opportunities begins with the spectacular Icefields Parkway. Travel through mountain corridors surrounded by rocky peaks, sparkling streams, and hanging glaciers. Step out onto the Athabasca Glacier and enjoy an interpretive journey in an all-terrain Ice Explorer. Gaze out over the Sunwapta Valley from a glass platform suspended high above the valley floor at the Glacier Skywalk. Continue along the Icefields Parkway with a final photo stop at Athabasca Falls. Arrive in the resort town of Jasper for an evening at leisure. This mountain town is full of character and colourful local mountaineers and skiers.
DAY 4 – Exploring Jasper
Get acquainted with the rich history and scenic highlights of Jasper National Park. Behold the power of water at Maligne Canyon. Photograph the mighty Athabasca River while learning of the trials and triumphs of early explorers who settled in the area. Learn the mystery behind the disappearing Medicine Lake. Look out over the vast waters of Maligne Lake. The afternoon and evening are free for further exploration of this mountain paradise.
DAY 5 – Jasper to Lake Louise
Travel south along the Icefield Parkway to the resort town of Lake Louise. Gaze up at the towering peak of Mount Temple, at 3,544 metres elevation. Stand on the shores of Lake Louise and behold the famous emerald green waters backed by majestic Mount Victoria. Spend a leisurely evening in Lake Louise.
DAY 6 – Lake Louise to Sun Peaks
Depart Lake Louise and travel over the continental divide into Yoho National Park and the province of British Columbia. Traverse along the scenic Kicking Horse River valley before ascending into the spectacular untouched wilderness of Rogers’s Pass. Stop for lunch in the Alpine Town of Revelstoke before continuing towards Okanagan Lake Country. The landscape transitions from rugged peaks to forested hills and expansive lakes. Continue through the desert-like hills surrounding Kamloops, as the road climbs through the Shuswap Highlands into the mountain region of Sun Peaks. Enjoy an evening stroll and keep your eye out for wildlife photo opportunities. Sun Peaks residents share this beautiful mountain village with many furry friends.
DAY 7 – Sun Peaks to Vancouver
Continue your journey toward Vancouver passing from forested mountains to the dramatic desert scenery of British Columbia’s cowboy country. Follow the Thompson River Valley through Spences Bridge, a small town established during the Cariboo Gold rush of the 1850’s. Continue south toward Hell’s Gate and the spectacular Fraser Canyon. Lunch and a tram ride at Hell’s Gate offers a chance to witness the power of water as it churns and pushes through the narrow Hell’s Gate gorge. Following lunch, wind along the mighty Fraser River through lush pastoral valleys, passing into the urban centres of Abbotsford, Langley, and Surrey. Conclude in the coastal city of Vancouver surrounded by spectacular ocean views and the impressive peaks of the Coast Mountains.
DAY 8 – Vancouver Departure
