How to Impress Your Out-of-Town Guests

Jun 19, 2015
Have you ever closed your eyes and imagined yourself standing on top of the world or perhaps travelled back in time to a different era? Your wanderlust has piqued, urging you to escape on an adventure for your summer vacation. But you’re conflicted: your relatives are visiting from out of town, perhaps to check out the famous Calgary Stampede, and you know you’ve already committed to hosting them on your valuable time off.

Luckily, the thing about having Banff and Jasper National Parks as your mountain playground is that you don’t have to be an expert explorer or a peculiar time traveler to satisfy your cravings for a notable holiday. In fact, there are a slew of epic explorations that will transport you (and those out-of-town guests) to another time and place - and they're all closer, and easier to experience than you think.

So pack up your car and take pride in being an Alberta local living in one of the most naturally beautiful destinations in the world! Plus, it’s fun to play host when you can brag to your visiting friends and relatives that you’ll travel back in time to the Ice Age exploring an ancient glacier, or reach heaven on earth when you summit a mountain peak in eight minutes (with grandma!). Make them feel special on an evening voyage on a mystical lake topped off with a sublime sunset from your very own picnic spot along the lake shore.

The hot afternoon sun can be harsh, so beat the summer heat (and crowds) as the locals do by exploring in the early mornings or late evenings. Bonus: these hours offer ideal lighting for photographers, so you can ensure that your guests will snap their perfect Instagram-worthy family photo (no filter required)!

These are just a few of the things beyond your backyard you can proudly flaunt to your guests. And let’s face it - if you’d rather keep your precious time-off for yourself, you can still show off your awesome backyard by sending your out-of-town visitors on various sightseeing tours and epic deals that’ll free up your time and also give your guests something to do. Just be prepared to get a little envious when they start raving about the mountain adventures they had without you.

So, as the days of everlasting sun and fun stretch on, it’s time to make the memories that you and others will continue to brag about for years to come.
