Winter Greetings from the Canadian Rockies

Nov 22, 2013
‘Tis the season where Mother Nature brings the gift of snow to the mountains of the Great White North! Winter in the Canadian Rockies is always an enchanting season with plenty of activities and events to let you experience winter’s charm first-hand.

On the 16th of November, Whistler Mountain of the world-famous Whistler-Blackcomb Ski Resort opened early to the delight of many eager ski and snowboard enthusiasts. The anticipation continues with Blackcomb Mountain expected to open next week on November 28th.

This season, visitors will appreciate two brand new chairlifts: Crystal Ridge Express on Blackcomb and the upgraded installation of a 6-passenger Harmony Express chair (previously 4) on Whistler. This means a 56% increase in lift capacity with easier terrain access and quicker queue times!

Imagine over 11 metres (38 feet) of snowfall, more than 8000 acres of skiable terrain, 200+ ski runs, and a variety of mountain dining experiences together with multiple activity options. Our favourite pick for an intermediate run is Peak 2 Creek on Whistler Mountain where skiers and snowboarders have access to the record-breaking Peak 2 Peak Gondola. It’s no surprise that we are just a ‘little’ excited.

With a slew of ski-in-ski-out accommodations available (e.g. Fairmont Chateau Whistler), relaxing après-ski options and a lively nightlife, Whistler implores you to come and visit this winter season.

Heli-sightseeing tours, ziplining, snowmobiling, dogsledding, tubing, and ice skating are just the tip of the iceberg that you can experience with your visit. Whistler even boasts a Scandinavian Spa if a relaxing getaway, complete with massage therapy session, is your desire.

Hot Tip: Do you like Belgian Waffles? Be sure to visit the Crystal Hut.
