Will this be the World’s Highest Easter Egg Hunt? We think so!

Kids will learn and explore as they hunt for Easter treats

If the novelty of sending your kids on a hunt around your living room is getting thinner than the ice on Minnewanka, this is definitely the year to try something more adventurous!

There’s a cool Easter Egg Hunt at an imperial palace in Vienna and one at the White House in Washington, DC. There’s a hunt through a dungeon in London and another through a maze in New Zealand. But, as far as we know, there is no hunt set on the top of a mountain at 2,271 m (7,486 feet).

Starting at 9:00 AM on Easter Sunday, April 16, your kids can ride the Banff Gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain – a thrill in itself. And then, they’ll go on the kind of Easter Egg Hunt across the top of the Rockies.  Parents are going to like it as much as their kids.
  1. They’ll learn cool stuff!  There are 12 questions to answer that will lead them to the final clue. A colouful egg will help them find their answers and allow them to explore all four levels of the Banff Gondola's all-new summit.

  1. They’ll meet fun people! The Interpretive Guides working at the Banff Gondola have a deep love for the mountains and a passion for sharing all the secrets of life at a high altitude. They’ll be on hand to help with the questions (see above).
  2. Once they’ve completed their hunt, they can turn in their answers to receive the final clue which leads them to their treasure.
  3. Yes, the Easter Bunny will be there too!
  4. You’re up early. There’s no extra cost to participate. The egg hunt is included in your family’s gondola ticket and your kids will be given the Easter Egg Hunt handout as they board the Gondola any time after 9:00 AM. The hunt runs until noon.

  1. Brunch is served! Follow the hunt with a family-friendly Easter brunch featuring healthy veggies (to balance out the chocolate!), and classic Easter dishes like Maple-glazed Ham and rack of Alberta lamb. A feature Easter brunch menu is available.
  2. You may even spot some pixie dust if the morning’s clear enough.
You can purchase your ticket in advance here. But there’s no need to book ahead. Just come on Easter morning, April 16, between 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM – kids have until noon to hand in their sheet and collect their eggs from the Easter Bunny.

It pays to get up with the sun in the Canadian Rockies. Here in the mountains, where nature rules, being a morning person means something a little different.
