Traveling on VIA Rail Canadian from Vancouver to Jasper

Apr 30, 2013
Today, we look at travelling between Vancouver, British Columbia and Jasper, Alberta in the Canadian Rockies using Canada’s largest passenger rail service, VIA Rail Canada.

This journey is part of a 4 night Trans-Canada rail journey (known simply as ‘The Canadian’) that links the ethnically diverse seaport city of Vancouver, British Columbia to Canada’s cosmopolitan and commercial capital of Toronto in the province of Ontario.

Experience ‘Beauty in Motion’ as you travel through inner British Columbia in the comfort of your cabin or berth. Join the millions who have experienced one of the world’s greatest train journeys on VIA Rail Canada’s recently renovated and upgraded train cars, including the Dining and Skyline Cars. We offer the category of Sleeper Plus Class on this journey. You can sleep in semi-private upper or lower berths or you can have private cabin that fits 1 to 3 passengers. You’re welcome to explore ‘The Canadian’ and will have access to the:

Skyline car – a car that is completed covered in windows creating 360 degree panoramic views of the landscape
Dual level Park car with upper observation deck that allows passengers to see above the train cars and the bar lounge on the lower level
Pre-boarding Panorama Lounge in Vancouver

The journey follows the Trans-Canada highway through the British Columbia coast and mountains until Kamloops where you will be showcased to the spectacular scenery that is the Canadian Rockies. The region’s highest mountain, Mt Robson will stand tall at nearly 4000m (13,000 ft) above sea level. The train will even slow down as you pass cascading Pyramid Falls which cannot be seen by car.

Indulge yourself with quality food and meals expertly prepared by VIA Rail’s onboard chef. They’re more than just your standard run-of-the-mill street car delight. Sit down, ogle at your choices, and embrace the ever moving scenery.

The Canadian departs three times a week from Vancouver at 20:30 between May and October on Sundays, Tuesdays & Fridays. The service drops to twice a week in winter to Tuesday and Fridays. The scheduled arrival into Jasper is 16:00 the following day.
