Hiking in Banff National Park

Aug 16, 2013
My favourite thing to do being in the Canadian Rockies is going for a walk or hike. Living in Banff is a highlight in itself, with so many hiking trails nearby - I would be foolish to miss out! Even though I am sometimes pretty exhausted, nothing compares to the feeling I get when I’ve reached the top, gaze at the views, soak up the fresh mountain air and breathe a little more.

During the summer I frequently do Tunnel Mountain because it is so close to Banff and easy to get to. Even though it’s the same hike, I never get tired of the scenery that the summits provides which makes the workout truly worth it. I even woke up one morning to see the sunrise! Vermillion Lakes is definitely a highlight given it is along a flat road, less than 1km from town and has park benches and canoe docks along the shore to rest and relax.

My favourite hikes of summer are Mt Bourgeau including Bourgeau Lake and Harvey Pass, Paradise Valley, Sentinel Pass and Cory Pass (Note: strenuous!). These hikes range from Moderate to Difficult and all provide stunning views of the monolithic mountain ranges, turquoise lakes surrounded by alpine forests and the greatest feeling of all: accomplishment. I love photography and my camera definitely gets a good workout each time.
