Brewster was very proud to finally host Canada’s Coolest School Trip contest winners this past week in Banff National Park. The winning Grade 8 class from Montague Intermediate School arrived in Banff from Prince Edward Island on Sunday, May 27th. To celebrate the students’ arrival into Banff, a special welcome dinner took place at the top of Sulphur Mountain at the Banff Gondola
. The hosting Banff Community High School Grade 8 class and representatives from Parks Canada, Banff Lake Louise Tourism and Brewster Travel Canada attended dinner to help kick-start their five day Canadian Rockies adventure.
The students participated in several hikes with Parks Canada’s interpreters, a visit to the Banff Park Museum, a visit with Mayor Sorensen at Banff Town Hall, sightseeing tours and visits to the Banff Gondola and the Banff Lake Cruise. The incredible grand finale was a trip down the Icefields Parkway where they got to experience the Columbia Icefield Glacier Adventure and overnight at the Glacier View Inn.
Parks Canada, Brewster Travel Canada, Nature Canada, the Historica-Dominion Institute and Banff Lake Louise Tourism first launched Canada’s Coolest School Trip Contest in September of 2011. In order to win a trip to Banff National Park, grade 8 students from across Canada were encouraged to submit a video recreating a significant moment related to a national park, national marine conservation area or national historic site. The winning entry “The Charlottetown Conference of 1864” was selected from 69 videos submitted from across the country.
