Eating the Westside

May 17, 2013
Last week we asked the staff of Brewster Vacations Canada what they thought were some of the best places to eat in Western Canada.

Here are their thoughts:

Japadog, Vancouver, BC
Ever had the bizarre idea of mixing a juicy hot dog with Japanese cuisine? If the answer is yes, these renowned food vendors dotted around Vancouver’s downtown core will make you question why you haven’t thought of it before. Our pick: the Terimayo.

The Maple Leaf Grill & Lounge, Banff, AB
Our offices are based in the Rockies and we love the proudly Canadian mouth-watering menu at this local restaurant located within the historic King Edward Hotel, one of the oldest hotels in Banff (alongside the Mount Royal Hotel). The warm atmosphere, wooden décor setting and friendly professional staff make for a relaxing night out. We recommend dinner here: bison, beef, elk and seafood have your taste buds covered; and if you’re a surfer rather than a turfer, the seafood tower will definitely address that.

Fairview Dining Room, Lake Louise, AB
Located within the world famous Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, the Fairview Dining room showcases the finest in regional Canadian cuisine with an emphasis on using local and organic ingredients. The room’s elegant dining setting, combined with the sheer opulence and lavishness of its high ceiling and wide columns makes for that extra special occasion.

Nourish Vegetarian Bistro, Banff, AB
We’re not all vegetarians (or vegans), but when we do have an inclination this is the best (and probably only) place to go. Sharing is actively encouraged and the gourmet menu will have you scratching your head at times. For us, you cannot fault the King Kong Noodles or the Classic Nachos. Due to its popularity, we strongly recommend advanced reservations.

Jelly Modern Donuts, Calgary, AB
All of us have a sweet tooth, and this bakery café has high ambitions to make, create and craft the best and freshest doughnuts in Western Canada. We’re not trying to be biased, but we genuinely think they hit the nail on the head with their maple bacon donut. Sweet genius.

The Bison, Banff, AB
We feel the regional inspired menu at this establishment is definitely worth a visit. The rustic style, the open concept kitchen and its’ careful selection of wines has us give it the thumbs up. And yes, there is bison on the menu.
