Day 1 – Montreal Arrival

The historic city of Montreal offers European charm, Acadian warmth, and an impressive array of arts and culture from around the world. Spend your day visiting the many neighborhoods and districts of Montreal. Stroll through the hip neighborhood of Le Plateau, sample original Montreal bagels at the Fairmount bagel shop in Mile End, check out the bustling Jean Talon market of Little Italy, and don’t miss the ancient stone architecture and cobblestone streets of Old Montreal.

Day 2 – Montreal

Enjoy a guided tour of the city’s landmarks including Place Ville Marie, Mont Royal, St. Catherine Street, and the Old Port. Don’t miss the cobblestone streets and historic stone buildings of Old Montreal. Take a peek into the magnificent architectural wonder of the Notre Dame Basilica while in Old Montreal. The remainder of your day is free to explore the city. Venture into the Underground City’s vast network of shops, cafes, passageways, hotels and museums, used by residents for quick indoor travel and shortcuts beneath the city.

Day 3 – Montreal

The day is yours to enjoy the sights of downtown Montreal. Hike the top of Mount Royal, or take a foodie walking tour and sample traditional and modern French-Canadian cuisine. Top off your day with a dinner cruise aboard the Cavalier Maxim boat, departing from Montreal’s historic Old Port. Savour a delicious five-course table d’hôte while gazing out over the lights of downtown Montreal. Following dinner, the outdoor terraces of the boat come alive with music and dancing.

Day 4 – Montreal to Quebec City

Make your way to the rail station and board a VIA Rail commuter train headed east to the historic gem of Quebec City. This French city is also the only fortified city in Canada, with towering stone walls encompassing the old town. Explore the narrow cobblestone streets of Old Quebec and marvel at the stone architecture and historic landmarks of this destination. Be sure to sample the locally produced maple syrup available in many downtown shops.

Day 5 – Quebec City

Discover the historic beginnings of Old Quebec with a guided walking tour through 400 years of enchanting history and the evolving architectural styles from the 1700’s to present day. Wrap up your day with an authentic French feast at Aux Anciens Canadiens restaurant. Located in the historic Maison Jacquet, this truly memorable dining experience offers the opportunity to visit one of the city’s oldest buildings, while sampling the cultural cuisine of Quebec.

Day 6 – Whale Watching Day Trip

Venture into the Quebec countryside with a scenic drive through the Charlevoix region to Baie Ste Catherine. Get out on the water for an afternoon whale watching tour in search of wildlife and sea birds. Enjoy panoramic views of the water and shoreline from the comfort of the Grand Fleuve boat. Return to Quebec City for an evening at leisure.

Day 7 – VIA Rail to Halifax

Enjoy a free day in Quebec City. Get up high with a spectacular overview of Quebec City and the at Observatoire de la Capitale. Take a walk along the Saint Lawrence River, and sample the Acadian French cuisine of Quebec from locally produced apple cider and sweet crepes, to savoury poutine. This evening, board the VIA Rail Ocean overnight train headed east to Halifax. Enjoy luxurious train amenities and cozy sleeping quarters during your overnight on the train.

Day 8 – Halifax Arrival

Continue your unique rail journey onboard the Ocean train, passing through the scenic rural communities of Quebec’s south shore to the maritime provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Arrive in Halifax late afternoon and enjoy an evening at leisure in this charming city situated on the Atlantic Coast.

Day 9 – Day Trip to Lunenburg

Join a kilted guide for a tour through the countryside of Nova Scotia to “New Scotland”. Explore the South Shore and hear stories of rum running, and the pirates of Oak Island . Visit Lunenburg and wander through the unique Maritime architecture and quaint shops of this colourful town. Continue with a drive along the picturesque Mahone Bay, decorated with historic churches and scenic shoreline. Return to Halifax for an evening at leisure.
